Signing In with Microsoft Single Sign-On (SSO)

Overview

Audience: All members of NGU with an NGU account.

Description: NGU uses Microsoft for Single Sign-On (SSO), letting you sign into services that NGU provides with your NGU account. When signing into these services, you will be guided through the updated login process, including setting up new Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) with Microsoft Authenticator or SMS if you are faculty or staff.

  • Important for Faculty and Staff: If you have an existing RapidIdentity account in Microsoft Authenticator, you may delete it. RapidIdentity was our previous SSO provider, and as of September, 2025 we have migrated all services from RapidIdentity to Microsoft Authenticator.

Recommended setup

We strongly encourage you to set up MFA with both Microsoft Authenticator and text message (SMS) verification. Having both ensures that if you get a new phone or have issues with either Authenticator or text messages, you'll still have access to your account.

The simplest way is to go to mfasetup.ngu.edu to set up both authentication methods.

Setting up MFA

Set up MFA directly (Recommended)

This is the quickest and most reliable way to set up your authentication methods.

  1. Open a web browser and go to mfasetup.ngu.edu.
  2. Sign in if prompted.
  3. Select Add sign-in method
  4. Select your preferred sign-in method using MFA. We recommend using Microsoft Authenticator (see instructions above) for improved security and experience. Once you have set up Authenticator, repeat this process and select Phone to receive a verification code by text message when signing in.
  5. Follow the prompts to continue setup.
