Description: How to carrier-unlock your NGU-provided FirstNet-locked phone.

Environment: AT&T/FirstNet-locked phones.

Carrier-Unlock Your Old Device

NGU-provided phones are under a two-year contract with AT&T/FirstNet, meaning they are carrier-locked to the AT&T network for 24 months upon activation.

Once the two years is up, you can request that your device is carrier-unlocked so that it can be used with alternative carriers (Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.).

To carrier-unlock your old device,

  1. Navigate to https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/.
  2. Select Submit an unlock request.
  3. Enter your mobile number or IMEI. NOTE: Entering the IMEI tends to be more reliable, though you can use your phone number. To use the IMEI:
    1. Under "Do you have a mobile number from AT&T", select No.
    2. Type your device's IMEI number in the IMEI field. Find the IMEI in iPhone Settings > General > About.
  4. Read and agree to AT&T's device unlock eligibility requirements.
  5. Select Next.
  6. Enter your first and last name, mobile number, and email address.
  7. Click Submit.
  8. If your device is eligible for unlocking, you will receive an email with a link to confirm. After you select the link, your device will be unlocked.
