Description: How to carrier-unlock your NGU-provided FirstNet-locked phone.
Environment: AT&T/FirstNet-locked phones.
Carrier-Unlock Your Old Device
NGU-provided phones are under a two-year contract with AT&T/FirstNet, meaning they are carrier-locked to the AT&T network for 24 months upon activation.
Once the two years is up, you can request that your device is carrier-unlocked so that it can be used with alternative carriers (Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.).
To carrier-unlock your old device,
- Navigate to https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/.
- Select Submit an unlock request.
- Enter your mobile number or IMEI. NOTE: Entering the IMEI tends to be more reliable, though you can use your phone number. To use the IMEI:
- Under "Do you have a mobile number from AT&T", select No.
- Type your device's IMEI number in the IMEI field. Find the IMEI in iPhone Settings > General > About.
- Read and agree to AT&T's device unlock eligibility requirements.
- Select Next.
- Enter your first and last name, mobile number, and email address.
- Click Submit.
- If your device is eligible for unlocking, you will receive an email with a link to confirm. After you select the link, your device will be unlocked.
